What is SGI?

Saudi Arabia is home to diverse environments, including thousands of kilometers of coastline, dense forests, and vast desert. Protection of these biomes helps to bolster biodiversity and restore the Kingdom’s natural environment.

Over the past four years, the percentage of natural reserves in the Kingdom has been raised from 4% to more than 16%

82,700km2

82,700 km2 of land is designated for wildlife protection. Saudi Arabia is also implementing a robust rewilding program, which reintroduces gazelle and oryx, among other animals, to their native lands

75 areas, including 62 terrestrial and 13 coastal and marine areas, are proposed for protection in Saudi Arabia
 

1,100

1,100 are currently employed by the Special Forces for Environmental Security (SFES), with plans to grow the force to 10,000 over the next four years
